Important Note:  To rotate molecules on the following web pages you need to have a java enabled browser and most, if not all of you do not.  Go to the following Sun Microsystems web site, http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp and download the latest version of Java. Most of you are using Internet Explorer in Windows XP or Vista.  It will test your browser and automatically install the latest Java plug-in if you follow the directions on that web site. Send me an email. jwaldron007@optonline.net and let me know if you got your browser working properly. Test it by going to the site below (3-D viewing of Stereoisomers) and try to rotate the isomers on that page (see left column URL'S)

For more information on Java Plug-in and why you need the SUN version( Microsoft discontinued Java), GO HERE

Chime Software now available for download. See below. Install it to allow free rotation of molecules on Chime-enabled sites

3-D viewing of stereoisomers.  Jmol is used to display the three dimensional molecular models that are an essential part of this presentation. Jmol requires that you have javascript installed and that your browser allows javascript to be run. See Table of Contents at left of page and try to rotate optical isomers, such as, enantiomers, meso- compounds, etc

        Molecular Model Sets:

It is very useful to have your own set of molecular models while studying organic chemistry. Check the following links for Student Organic Chemistry Models. Price range is from approximately $15 o $50

  1. Student Organic Models by Indigo   $37

  2. Organic Molecular Models by Prentice-Hall (Amazon.com)  $36 - $56

  3. Organic Models by Darling    $20

  4. * Basic Student Organic Model Set by Sargent-Welch   $17

* I personally recommend the Prentice Hall or Indigo sets if you can afford it. Otherwise the student set by Sargent-Welch would be adequate for examining simple stereoisomers and doing  conformational analyses of simple alkanes.
